Robert P. Tucker III MD FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in treating anterior segment and external diseases of the eye (including corneal pterygium excision, tear film deficiencies, glaucoma, infections), medical retina conditions and complex, as well as routine, cataract and intraocular lens implantation surgery. Dr. Tucker utilizes a broad array of laser technologies to treat various eye conditions.  

He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry with a minor concentration in Political Science from Emory University while consistently making the Dean’s List for academic achievement. Dr. Tucker graduated from medical school at the Emory University School of Medicine. After a rigorous, combined internship in General Surgery and Internal Medicine, Dr. Tucker returned to Emory University to pursue his ophthalmology residency. Upon completing his residency at Emory University and being certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Tucker began practicing independently and volunteering at the Emory University VA Medical Center in Decatur, Ga as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery. Along with this, he was also the team ophthalmologist for the Atlanta Falcons from 1985 until 2010 working closely with the Falcons athletic training staff and players.  

An award-winning ophthalmologist, Dr. Tucker has been in private practice in the Atlanta area for nearly four decades. He is a Lifetime Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Tucker has served in various leadership positions in organized medicine and ophthalmology. He represented the American Academy of Ophthalmology both as a Delegate to the American Medical Association House of Delegates and as a Governor on the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors. He is a recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award. 

Dr. Tucker is a native Atlantan. When not taking care of patients, Dr. Tucker’s hobbies include weight training, aerobic fitness, and participating in sports such as tennis, pickleball and skiing. Along with this, he enjoys hiking and river rafting with his family and friends. Dr. Tucker has a keen interest in cutting edge ophthalmic clinical and surgical developments, current non-medical news and historical events.
