LASIK Surgery Options

Bladeless LASIK

Bladeless LASIK at Thomas Eye Group can restore vision to 20/20 or better for people suffering from nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. This procedure provides a significant improvement in lifestyle and freedom from the hassles and irritations of glasses or contact lenses.

Bladeless LASIK: 3 Steps to Better Vision

Bladeless LASIK takes only minutes per eye. You may start seeing better right away; however, your eyes will need to rest while the healing process takes over. After the procedure, you’ll be asked to go home and relax or take a nap. After a good night’s sleep, you can expect to wake to your first morning without lenses.

EVO ICL (an alternative to LASIK)

What is EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced soft-material lens, composed of 100% biocompatible collagen copolymer that won’t cause dry eyes after implantation. It also protects your eyes from the sun’s UV rays and promotes a natural feel with a quality of vision that is sharp, clear, and vivid.

The EVO ICL is positioned inside the eye between your iris and your natural lens. It’s an additive lens that doesn’t require reshaping the cornea or removing the natural lens to correct your vision.

If at any point your vision changes or you wish to have them removed, it can be done easily and because your cornea is in its natural state, you are able to pursue other vision correction options.

How is the procedure performed?

The EVO ICL procedure is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately 15 minutes. Prior to the procedure, you will receive topical anesthesia drops to minimize discomfort. Your doctor creates a very small opening to insert the lens into the eye, where the lens unfolds, and the procedure is complete. Patients usually experience an immediate improvement in vision and are “wowed” by the results.

Who is a candidate for EVO ICL?

If you are between the ages of 21 and 45 and nearsighted, you may be an excellent candidate for the EVO ICL. This procedure is especially beneficial to patients with thin corneas and dry eyes. It is preferable that the patient has not undergone any ophthalmic surgery and does not have a history of eye diseases such as iritis, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy. Additional characteristics include:

What are the Benefits of the EVO ICL?

There are many benefits to choosing the EVO ICL! Besides achieving visual freedom, you can look forward to things like:

The EVO ICL lets you see the world in crisp, bright detail. You won’t have to look at everything around you with frames or boundaries holding you back.

Can You Still Get the EVO ICL if You Don't Qualify for LASIK?

Yes! Many people choose the EVO ICL because they want to correct their vision even after discovering they don’t qualify for LASIK.

To safely have LASIK, you need to have thick enough corneas. If your corneas are too thin, it can be unsafe to undergo the procedure and have a flap created during LASIK to correct your refractive errors.

But for some of these patients, getting the EVO ICL is a much better fit. No flap is created when you have the EVO ICL put in your eye.

No tissue is removed, so even if your corneas are thin, you may still be a good candidate for the EVO ICL. The EVO ICL is also suitable for people with dry eyes.

Because the EVO ICL is made from a biocompatible material called collamer, it won’t cause dry eyes. This makes the EVO ICL a much safer and more effective vision correction procedure for patients with dry eyes.
