Designer Eyeglasses

High-Quality Designer Eyewear

Lens technology is 3000 years old, but advances are made every day. At Thomas Eye Group, we stay abreast of new ideas and techniques and work to improve sight by looking far and wide for the best science, the best quality, and the best performance.

Lens manufacturing procedures differ according to the materials used. Adapting the lens to the frame involves centering, edging, and assembly. Centering involves ensuring the lens is placed correctly in the frame by accurate measurements.

These measurements are transmitted to the edger. The lens is then edged to fit the frame while taking into account the material and the power of the lens. Frames come in a variety of options from plastic to metal and rimless. Today's rimless frames utilize compression-mount technology which eliminates the need for screws and hinges, making these glasses extremely lightweight.

Knowing different lens materials can help you make the best choice based on your specific prescription, your lifestyle, and your budget. The Thomas Eye Group staff will assist you in choosing lenses that are appropriate for how you live.

Polarized Lenses

Polarized lenses are used to make sunglasses; they reduce the intense glare of the outdoors, are a favorite of fishermen, and are now widely available not just in brown and gray, but many more colors. Your eye care professional will be able to assist you regarding which lens color bests fit your needs.

Photochromatic Lenses

Photochromatic technology, embedded in the lens material, allows the lens to change to a darker tint in the sun and then clear indoors. They are glasses and sunglasses in one. These lenses adjust to the light intensity providing you with a more comfortable vision at all times.

Polycarbonate Lenses

Trivex is a new lens that is similar to polycarbonate, lighter than standard plastic; it is rigid, however, making it the choice of people who wear drill mount or rimless frames. These lenses are for children, safety, and sport. Polycarbonates are thin, light, and impact-resistant with built-in UV protection, a good choice for children's lenses.

UV Protection

Harmful UV rays have been known to speed up the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. Choosing UV treated lenses will protect your eyes from the harmful effects of the sun. UV protection is usually included in your eyeglass purchase.

To prevent scratching and breaking, we choose frames that are made of resilient material, like memory metal, that is bendable, returning to shape after bangs and crashes.

At Thomas Eye Group, we know that it's about style, too. Frames of all colors and shapes are available so that your children can communicate their unique personalities.
