Dr. Jessica D. McCluskey, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist, and fellowship-trained retina specialist, and has been recognized throughout her career for compassionate patient care, surgical skill, and excellence in teaching. She sees patients in both our Atlanta and Newnan locations. After earning a Bachelor of Science at Boston College she returned to her home state of Mississippi to complete her Medical Degree. During Medical School at the University of Mississippi she received Awards in Excellence in the fields of Ophthalmology and Neurosurgery. Dr. McCluskey followed with a four year Ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi where she served as Chief Resident.
She then spent two years practicing general ophthalmology at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, MS. During this time she served as a clinical instructor at the medical center, training residents in the surgical and medical aspects of ophthalmology. For leadership and excellence in teaching, she received the prestigious Samuel B. Johnson Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. McCluskey then pursued sub-specialty training and was accepted into a competitive fellowship in diseases of the retina, and vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. McCluskey’s specific areas of interest include retinal tears and detachments, laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy, diseases of the macula, and retinopathy of prematurity. She has been involved in numerous clinical studies focusing on diabetic eye disease and neonatal retinopathy. Dr. McCluskey enjoys a careful balance between her clinical practice and time at home or traveling with her family, and she is thrilled to call the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia her new home.
