As our regular readers know, Thomas Eye Group held a promotion last month offering free LASIK surgery to a deserving candidate known for making a difference in the community. The entries poured in, but our winner, Jonathan Baker, stood out for his tireless efforts to protect his community through his career as a firefighter and the volunteer hours and expenses he’s dedicated to helping citizens in need in developing countries around the world.
Jonathan had considered LASIK for more than a decade, but with most of his discretionary income going to his family and caring for orphans in countries such as Haiti, surgery to better his sight wasn’t in the budget.
But Christmas came early for Jonathan when he learned that Thomas Eye Group was offering him free LASIK to correct his 20/400 vision.
“The minute I walked into the Thomas Eye Group facility I knew it was different from the “discount” LASIK centers I had visited previously,” Jonathan said. “The staff at Thomas Eye Group was extremely professional and most importantly, personal.”
After being educated about the procedure, Jonathan felt confident that the surgeons at Thomas Eye Group would provide the highest quality of care. And when Jonathan learned that 45 percent of Thomas Eye Group’s LASIK patients end up with better than 20/20 vision, he knew he was in the right place.
Jonathon feels that LASIK has been a life-changer. Sixteen hours after his procedure he had 20/20 vision and over the next few days as his eyes healed his vision became 20/15 and will likely get to 20/10.
“I see better now than I ever did with contacts and glasses,” he said. “Glasses always bothered me and contacts caused eye infections no matter how clean I kept them. And when I'm doing mission work in Haiti, I don't have time for eye issues.”
