Chalazion

Chalazion cysts form when the wax glands in the eyelid become blocked and a pea-sized cyst forms in the eyelid. The cyst may dissolve on its own or grow larger and then smaller again.

We recommend conservative treatment of chalazion cysts. For significant inflammation, we treat the cyst with warm compresses and antibiotic eye drops. After using drops and warm compresses for five days, the cysts are usually smaller and less inflamed and may dissolve completely. If cysts persist for several months, or if there are multiple periods of inflammation, then we may consider surgically removing them.
