Tecnis IOL

During the surgery procedure the lens is inserted through a tiny incision in the eye. This surgery follows the same cataract surgery process used with other lens implants known as phacoemulsification. During this procedure the natural crystalline lens is broken up using ultrasonic waves. The crystalline lens is the part of the eye behind the cornea that can thicken over time and become cloudy, forming cataracts that obstruct vision. During the procedure, the unhealthy crystalline lens is broken up into minute fragments and the tiny pieces are then vacuumed away. The next process involves the insertion of the TECNIS™ multifocal IOL. The lens is inserted through a small incision in the eye and unfolds into the appropriate position. This new lens will ultimately correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness.

Common Questions about the Tecnis™ IOL

Q: Will I still need to wear glasses after my Tecnis™ multifocal IOL procedure?

A: Although this lens implant has very good results at our practice, the results will vary depending on your vision and specific lifestyle. Some patients will require the use of reading glasses to read fine print or newspapers. Many people do not require glasses at all after the implantation of this lens.

In a clinical study, 93.8% of patients receiving the Tecnis™ multifocal lens were able to function without glasses at all distances, near, far, and in between.

Q: How is the Tecnis™ Multifocal lens different from traditional intraocular lenses?

A: The Tecnis™ IOL is a multifocal intraocular lens. Unlike traditional monofocal (single vision) lens implants, the Tecnis Multifocal lens provides quality vision at all distances-near(reading), intermediate(computer use or cooking), and far(driving).
