Advanced Search Explained
Type your search term or phrase and select the criteria you want to use:
- Choose "all of the words" to request a narrower search. Each result contains articles with all of your search words in any order.
For example, if you type in "Doctor Berland," you will get articles that have both "Doctor" and "Berland" in them--in any order.
- Choose "any of the words" to request a broader search. Each result contains articles with one or more of your search terms in any order.
For example, if you type in "Doctor Berland," you will get articles that have either "Doctor" or "Berland" in them--in any order.
- Choose "exact phrase" to search for a set of terms (a phrase) in a particular order. Each result contains articles with the exact phrase in their text.
For example, if you type in "Doctor Berland" you will only get articles that have "Doctor Berland" in them--in that exact order.
- Choose "match partial words" to search for part of a word. Each result contains articles with words that match the letter string you enter.
For example, if you want to learn about "strabismus" but do not know how to spell it, you could enter "st" into the search box and choose the "match partial words" option. Your results will be extensive and will contain any articles with the letters "st" in them. The list would include articles containing the words strabismus, astigmatism, sty, or Dr. St. Louis, to name a few.
Please Note: Plus signs (+), minus signs (-), double quotes (""), and wild cards (*) are ignored in Advanced Search. Also, Advanced Search is not case-sensitive.
